DAY 49 BLENHEIM/PICTON/WELLINGTON Depart this morning for Picton. The drive takes approximately 30 minutes. 10:30 AM Set sail for Wellington on board the Kaitaki. The crossing takes approximately 3 hours, 10 minutes. Cruise through the majestic Marlborough Sounds – a web of mountains and crystal clear sea. From the observation deck you will see a wealth of little bush covered islands, half hidden islets and native forest stretching down to a waterline dotted with small wooden houses and weather worn boatsheds. In between the South Island and North Island is the Cook Strait, a historic waterway full of myth and legend. It was here in 1770 that the European explorer, Captain James Cook discovered New Zealand was in fact two islands and the strait is named in his honor. From the Cook Strait enjoy a stunning view of the South Island’s Kaikoura ranges and the opportunity to spot dolphins and sea birds. On arrival (approximately 1:30 PM) at the Wellington Ferry Terminal you will be met by a representative from Crown Chauffeur Car Services and transferred to the Bolton Hotel.
