The TranzAlpine scenic train journey travels between Greymouth and Christchurch, from one coast of New Zealand to the other. From your carriage you’ll see the fields of the Canterbury Plains and farmland, followed by the spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. All carriages include both one way seating and tabled group seating allowing you to experience the amazing views while enjoying the company of other passengers on-board. You can climb the steep steps up to the bell tower balcony of Christchurch Cathedral for a marvelous view of the city and distant mountains. Atop lovely Cashmere Hill sits ‘The Sign of the Takahe’ an excellent place to soak up the city views. Or perhaps rent a bicycle and see the sites as the locals do.
