DAY 07 XI'AN (Breakfast, Lunch) At approximately 9:00 AM be ready in the lobby of the Shangri-La Hotel in preparation for a day of exploring. Begin with a visit to one of the most incredible sights in the world, the 'Teracotta Warriors'. In 1974, while digging a well, a farmer stumbled upon the third century B.C. burial grounds of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi. An archaeological dig has uncovered an army of more than 8,000 life-sized terracotta statues, each with distinctive physical features. These soldiers have been guarding their emperor's tomb, under- ground for over 2,000 years! A special visit to the restoration area of Pit No 1 has been arranged. At the back of Pit # 1 there is a workshop where the Terra Cotta Warriors and horses are being restored by archeologists. When led into the restoration site, you can walk through the Terra Cotta Warriors and enjoy viewing them at the same level. Pause for lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon visit the Provincial History Museum where you will find more than 2,000 ancient artifacts on display, depicting the evolution and development of Chinese civilization.
